Client Stories: Founder of The Econic Company James Chung

S72 Client Headshot

Can you introduce yourself and tell us a bit about what you do?

My name is James Chung and I am the Founder and Principal of the Econic Company. I have been in the commercial real estate world for almost a quarter century and started the firm during the Pandemic. My goal with the inception of the company was to reimagine and redefine how the business can be conducted and executed, taking everything I have learned in my career, and applying the good and the bad with equal passion and focus. Our firm is hyper-focused on the retail vertical both locally and nationally. We exclusively represent over 40 million square feet in the greater Bay Area and north of 200 national and regional tenants in their expansion.

What motivated you to get a new headshot?  How old was your previous headshot?

I previously ran the western United States for a global firm and was always very underwhelmed by our headshots, despite the importance of it being the "first impression". When starting the company, I was committed to not overlooking even the smallest of details and was determined to address every building block with equal importance. I wanted to make sure our standard was applied in every aspect of our business.

How did you feel about your old headshot, and what were you looking for in your new one?

While my old headshot was acceptable, I knew it could be better. I searched far and wide to find S72 and once I did, I knew Jeff was the guy. I was immediately impressed by the versatility of his portfolio, but more importantly, how he captured the true spirit of his clients.

In what ways do you think your new headshot has impacted your business, visibility or job search?

I can say it has impacted our business very positively based solely on the feedback we continually receive. Because of the prolific nature of social media alone, your headshot is what the world sees first whether on Instagram or LinkedIn. Whether you are speaking at an event or featured in a newspaper, I am proud of the way I show up because of Jeff and S72's quality of work.

Have you received any feedback on your new headshot?

100%. I continue to refer Jeff to anyone and everyone as his work speaks for itself. I do and will endorse S72 any chance I can.

How important do you think a professional headshot is for someone in your field?

I always tell my team "you are always being interviewed" whether it's a phone call, text, email, or in-person meeting. Your headshot is often the first impression and is not only important in our field but in any profession.

What advice would you give to someone considering getting a new headshot?

My advice would be to not undervalue the importance of the photo. This is essentially your identity to the business world and will be used continually over time.

Were you nervous or uncomfortable with the idea of having your photos taken and if so how was the experience in the end?

I was not nervous but actually excited to have something I could be proud of, especially starting a new company and creating a new identity for not only myself but for the firm.

How did you prepare for your headshot session, and do you have any tips for others on how to get ready for theirs?

I was very mindful of the advice Jeff provided prior to the session, and made sure I did everything in my control to give myself the best chance for a headshot that I would be thrilled to use and share with the world. The only counsel I would give is to show up and be authentic as it will ultimately come out in the final product.

Is there anything else you’d like to share about your experience or the impact of your new headshot?

As everyone can relate, the Pandemic was a strange time for all and that so happened to be the time when I started the econic company. As such, I was unable to go to his studio in San Francisco and ended up taking photos in his garage at his home. Despite the unique circumstances, Jeff was a professional and made the best of the situation which ultimately resulted in a spectacular headshot that I would not change for any reason.

How was your experience working with S72 for your headshot session?

Jeff is a total pro and his body of work speaks for itself. I would recommend him to anyone looking to elevate their presence!
