Can you introduce yourself and tell us a bit about what you do and your industry?
Hello, I am Julie, an artist and designer. I run a small product design studio specializing in startups.
What motivated you to get a new headshot? How old was your previous headshot?
My previous headshot (by Jeff) was over 6 years old. I feel that a good headshot can tell potential clients a lot more about who I am than I can put into words.
How did you feel about your old headshot prior to coming to me, and what were you looking for in your new one?
I mostly wanted an update! I have bangs now!
In what ways do you think your new headshot has impacted your business, visibility or job search?
One of the reasons I wanted a new headshot was to update all of the locations that I use the headshot for consistency across the web. So that people know when they see it that it's me.
Have you received any feedback or comments on your new headshot?
I get a lot of positive feedback on my headshot! "This is SO YOU" is my favorite.
How important do you think a professional headshot is for someone in your field?
As a designer, the work needs to speak for itself but clients don't work with pixels, they work with a human. And knowing who the human it is they will be working with is huge. They put their trust in me and I want them to know who I am.
What advice would you give to someone considering getting a professional headshot?
I know it can be hard to take the leap because I felt that myself. The best part about having a headshot that you love is that you don't have to hide yourself from your own business. Before when I was using a blurry, old photo, I hesitated before sending it. Now I know I am literally putting my best face forward.
Were you nervous or uncomfortable with the idea of having your photos taken and if so how was the experience in the end?
Jeff makes the experience very comfortable and sends a lot of info, but I was still nervous. I brought two shirts to switch into. He had a large mirror so you can see yourself. This is great. He also helps to guide you in the moment.
How did you prepare for your headshot session, and do you have any tips for others on how to get ready for theirs?
I looked at my previous headshot and what I liked and didn't. I bought a new shirt. I did my hair and makeup myself before going and then took an Uber to the studio.
How was your experience working with S72 for your headshot session?
Jeff put me at ease. I felt he guided me through the session. It was great! We looked at them together after the session which was helpful as well.
