Client Stories: Founder of M. Luna Consulting Melissa Albarenga
Can you introduce yourself and tell us a bit about what you do?
My name is Melissa Albarenga, and I am the Founder of M. Luna Consulting, a firm dedicated to offering personalized coaching and professional development services to individuals, leaders, and teams. Our mission is to help you harness your unique experiences and strengths, enabling you to lead an authentic life or contribute to a team of change-makers making a significant impact on communities. At M. Luna Consulting, we primarily partner with non-profits across multiple states, supporting their efforts to drive social change in areas such as public education, youth policy and advocacy, and mental health and wellbeing.
What motivated you to get a new headshot? How old was your previous headshot?
I decided to leave my decade-long career to establish M. Luna Consulting and knew I needed a new headshot to mark this exciting new chapter. My previous headshot, taken two years ago when I was the Director of Advocacy, no longer felt appropriate. I wanted a fresh image that was both casual and professional to reflect my new venture.
How did you feel about your old headshot, and what were you looking for in your new one?
I liked my old headshot but it didn't feel personal to me. It was outdoors in Down Town Oakland. I was looking for something more personal and intimate which is why I loved S72's work.
In what ways do you think your new headshot has impacted your business, visibility or job search?
As a business owner providing direct services, I am M. Luna Consulting, I am who my clients work with so that's why a more intimate headshot is what I was looking for. I love my headshot and I feel like it gives potential clients a glimpse of who I am before deciding to work with me.
Have you received any feedback on your new headshot?
I've received many comments about how modern and different my headshots are and how they capture my "beautiful smile". Not my quote ◡̈
How important do you think a professional headshot is for someone in your field?
A professional headshot is really everything, especially for a business owner who focuses on individuals and teams more personally. The work that I do is focused on people and my current and future clients want to see who is behind the work and behind M. Luna.
What advice would you give to someone considering getting a new headshot?
I highly recommend getting a professional headshot. I went over a decade in my career without one, not realizing its importance. In today's world, where connection and community are highly valued, a headshot can significantly enhance personal connections. It helps you establish a rapport with others even before you meet them in person or virtually.
Were you nervous or uncomfortable with the idea of having your photos taken and if so how was the experience in the end?
I was nervous! I didn't know what to expect. My old headshot was taken by a colleague of mine, very informal. Jeff made the experience super easy and I felt comfortable the entire time. I was shocked that Jeff captured great headshots in such a short time. I loved the options I had!
How did you prepare for your headshot session, and do you have any tips for others on how to get ready for theirs?
I had normal light makeup on the day of and I wore what I would wear on any random weekday. My intention was to look the exact same way in my picture and in person. Jeff gave great instructions prior to the appointment. The quality of the pictures are amazing so there was no need for me to pack on the makeup or get too creative with clothing (outside of what I usually do.)
Is there anything else you’d like to share about your experience or the impact of your new headshot?
I love my headshots! I want to go back soon since my hair has grown significantly. (lol)
How was your experience working with S72 for your headshot session?
It was easy, comfortable and fast! I appreciated being able to see the pictures before heading out.
