Can you introduce yourself and tell us a bit about what you do?
My name is Benjamin Davila and I currently work as Certified Nurse Assistant in San Francisco. I hold an Associate Degree in Nursing from the College of Marin, where I gain a solid foundation in nursing. Throughout the school year of 2024-2025, I’ll be pursuing a Bachelor Science in Nursing at Sonoma State University.
What motivated you to get a new headshot? How old was your previous headshot?
I was motivated to get a new headshot in 2022 when I realized it was time to update my profile picture for future business networking and interview purposes. The headshot fromS72 is actually my first professional photo taken by a photographer. Previously, I used my own skills to take my headshots, as I was experienced in landscape than portrait photography.
How did you feel about your old headshot, and what were you looking for in your new one?
I was satisfied with my previous headshots, but thrilled with the quality of the photos taken by Jeff, the photographer. I had a clear vision of what I wanted in my new headshot and communicated my ideas with him. The key to the excellent results from S72 was effective communication about my goals and expectation for the headshots and/or full-body pictures.
In what ways do you think your new headshot has impacted your business, visibility or job search?
My new headshots have significantly impacted my visibility and job search. I’ve received numerous compliments, and it effectively represent my current career pathway while conveying professionalism across various social media platforms. Although many factors contribute to attracting an audience and standing out on social media, I noticed that my headshot made a substantial difference. It has helped me gain opportunities through various channels of communication.

Yes, I have received feedback on my new headshots. It has sparked interesting conversations about my career path and has generated interest in exploring other career opportunities.
How important do you think a professional headshot is for someone in your field?
A professional headshot is essential in the healthcare field, especially as the job market increasingly demands medical doctors, registers nurses, and other healthcare specialists. It conveys professionalism and helps make a positive first impression on potential employers and colleagues.
What advice would you give to someone considering getting a new headshot?
The best advice for anyone considering getting a professional headshot is to manage your expectations and actively participate in the process. Plan your clothing style and think about how the headshot will represent your current background, including your career, hobbies or business. It’s crucial to communicate your goals and preference with the photographer, such as the desired look, texture, and background color. This helps the photographer understand your vision and better deliver the services. Effective communication ensures that the final headshot accurately reflects your personality and professional image.
Were you nervous or uncomfortable with the idea of having your photos taken and if so how was the experience in the end?
I was initially nervous about having my photos taken, but I gradually became more comfortable as the session progressed. By the end, I was amazed by the unedited photos Jeff had taken and excited to see the final results.
How did you prepare for your headshot session, and do you have any tips for others on how to get ready for theirs?
I mentally and physically prepared for my headshot session by focusing on my appearance. Here are some tips I can share for other preparing for their sessions: start by taking care of yourself leading up to the photoshoot – exercise, stay hydrated, and maintain a skincare routine. Visit a professional hairstylist or barbershop for a fresh haircut. Additionally, practice different facial expressions in front of a mirror or camera to see what adjustment you might need for the session, whether it’s a confident smile or a serious demeanor. These preparations will help you feel confident and ready for your time with the photographer.
Is there anything else you’d like to share about your experience or the impact of your new headshot?
Having started as a beginner photographer before transitioning to become a register nurse, I can attest to the photographer’s extensive experiences and skill in using the right equipment for excellent headshot results. Witnessing firsthand the equipment used during the photo session assured me of the photographer’s proficiency and dedication to achieving high-quality photos.
