Client Stories: San Francisco Architect Jacob Green
Can you introduce yourself and tell us a bit about what you do?
I recently established my own architectural practice here in San Francisco. Arcain Design is a full service architectural practice specializing in single family and multi family residential projects.
What motivated you to get a new headshot? How old was your previous headshot?
Being a new business owner and being the face of my brand, I needed to find a photographer that had a track record for capturing more than a good picture, but the essence of the person. My most recent headshots were those provided by the last firm I worked for prior to jumping into the world of sole proprietorship. Yeah, they weren't inspired.
How did you feel about your old headshot, and what were you looking for in your new one?
It looked like a high school yearbook picture - grainy, bad lighting, no attitude or dynamics. I wanted the new one to show my personality. I'm professional but approachable. I'm all business, but I'm very relaxed and charismatic.
In what ways do you think your new headshot has impacted your business, visibility or job search?
Traffic across my social media platforms, LinkedIn and website have improved now that people can see the person behind the work. In a creative field, it's essential to have that connection between the creator and the product.
Have you received any feedback on your new headshot?
Colleagues have said it's amazing and "legit"
How important do you think a professional headshot is for someone in your field?
Extremely. First impressions can make or break a potential project. I'm pretty sure research shows the connection between how someone looks and whether that translates to how they're perceived.
What advice would you give to someone considering getting a new headshot?
Do it.
Were you nervous or uncomfortable with the idea of having your photos taken and if so how was the experience in the end?
I was initially because I can be a tad camera shy. After the first few frames though, I felt really comfortable and at the end was really excited to see the results.
How did you prepare for your headshot session, and do you have any tips for others on how to get ready for theirs?
I didn't really do anything to prepare other than making sure I was wearing something that was authentic to me and my self identity.
How was your experience working with S72 for your headshot session?
It was great. You were on time, laid back, and had a great way of directing me as the subject during the shoot.
