Client Stories: Renewable Energy Consultant Kirk Hayes

S72 Client Headshot

Can you introduce yourself and tell us a bit about what you do?

I am Kirk Hayes, a global renewable energy consultant, senior executive, and entrepreneur. I focus on the operations side of the house and enjoy the ambiguity and problem-solving of the startup world. With extensive experience in solar and energy storage, I have a strong background in project development, operations, and lean philosophies. My work has contributed to the growth and success of numerous renewable energy projects and products worldwide.

What motivated you to get a new headshot?  How old was your previous headshot?

It's time to rebrand and refresh. I have aged a bit more since my headshots in 2019 (ish?). I want to make sure that my headshots reflect reality.

How did you feel about your old headshot, and what were you looking for in your new one?

I loved the previous headshots that you did for me. In the new headshots, I am looking to convey trust, accountability, and leadership.

In what ways do you think your new headshot has impacted your business, visibility or job search?

My headshots are well-used and have been included in many investor presentations. At this level of my career, it is important to maintain good headshots for various reasons.

How important do you think a professional headshot is for someone in your field?

Very important

What advice would you give to someone considering getting a new headshot?

Find the right photographer. AI can never replace the intuition that human's have. Jeff's ability to tell a story via the lens is superb, and I would encourage others to feel comfortable making this investment in themselves.

Were you nervous or uncomfortable with the idea of having your photos taken and if so how was the experience in the end?

I felt a bit awkward, as I am not a vain individual. Spending money to have photos of myself and only myself seemed odd to me, however I have been able to use them on LinkedIn, personal websites, company O365 profiles, messaging apps, etc. Being a consultant as well, I absolutely needed headshots to help convey to the world who I am. Not just where I work.

How did you prepare for your headshot session, and do you have any tips for others on how to get ready for theirs?

Curate how you want the world to see you. Be thoughtful about the clothing and jewelry you wear. For me, I am comfortable in the boardroom as well as digging trenches in a construction setting. I will most likely bring an outfit that can transition from casual to professional and I may skip the fancy watches, so as not to be a distraction to viewers who will judge.

How was your experience working with S72 for your headshot session?

First time, was pleasantly more comfortable than I anticipated. Second time, we need to schedule :-)
